We’re excited to share another fresh website launch, this time for CooperativeGames.com, a mission-driven resource helping families, educators, and classrooms build connection through cooperative play.
As a Eureka web design studio, we love working with projects rooted in education, community, and meaningful impact. CooperativeGames.com has been a trusted name in cooperative learning since 2009, and this redesign was all about honoring that legacy while making the site easier to use, easier to update, and better aligned with how the work has evolved.
This project was also a great example of something we talk about often at Humboldt Creative: sometimes the right technical decision isn’t the most conventional one.

Why We Moved from WordPress to Squarespace
CooperativeGames.com had been maintained on WordPress for many years, but over time the setup became heavy and fragile. Outdated plugins, broken themes, and backend clutter made even small updates feel risky. Suzanne had a wealth of valuable content — educational books, classroom resources, and thoughtful writing on cooperative play — yet the technology was getting in the way of sharing it.
Updating the store felt stressful, blog posts became a chore, and the site no longer felt supportive of her day-to-day work. When we stepped back and looked at what was actually needed, the answer wasn’t more technical power, it was clarity, confidence, and control.
Instead of defaulting to “WordPress is best,” we made an intentional (and slightly unconventional) choice: migrating the site from WordPress to Squarespace. The goal was to create a system that worked for Suzanne, not against her.
A Thoughtful Migration, Done the Right Way
The migration was handled strategically to preserve SEO and content while rebuilding the site in Squarespace with a simpler structure, softer design, and one-on-one training that put Suzanne fully back in control of her site.
The Result: A Site That Feels Alive Again
Today, CooperativeGames.com is back in the driver’s seat of its online presence.
The site feels lighter, clearer, and more approachable with an integrated store, refreshed visuals, and a structure that supports ongoing growth. Most importantly, Suzanne can now focus on creating and sharing resources instead of worrying about breaking the site.
From an Arcata web design perspective, this project is a reminder that the “best” platform is always the one that fits the client’s real needs — not just industry norms.
Why Local Organizations Choose Our Arcata Web Design Studio
If you’re searching for Arcata web design, Eureka web design, or McKinleyville web design, you’re likely looking for more than a surface-level refresh. You want a partner who:
- Understands local, community-driven work
- Makes strategic platform decisions (even when they’re unconventional)
- Designs websites that are sustainable, not stressful
That’s exactly how we approach every project at Humboldt Creative.
